Historical Insights
The Old Slave Market & Cathedral
Zanzibar Old Stone Town was the Slave Center Market in Africa until June 6, 1873, when the trade was abolished. You will see the dingy Slave Chambers where they were kept before auction. Today, the Anglican Cathedral Church of Christ stands on this site, with its high altar located exactly where the "Weeping Post" used to be.
Museums & Palaces
Visit the National Museum of Zanzibar (House of Wonders), built in 1883, to see relics from the Oman Sultans and details of explorers like Stanley, Speke, and Dr. David Livingstone. Explore the Sultan's Palace and the Arab Old Fort, dating back to 1700.
The Narrow Streets & Bazaars
Take a leisure walk through the narrow streets where houses date back over 250 years. You will find exotic small bazaars and shops, meeting friendly Zanzibari people doing their daily shopping. It's a unique experience to explore the historical, cultural, and traditional side of Zanzibar.
